We foster a rigorous yet supportive learning environment, supported by a diverse and talented faculty. Approximately 70% of our graduates are successfully placed in graduate and professional schools, a testament to our strong academic preparation.
In January 2022, our chemistry program received accreditation from the American Chemical Society (ACS), affirming our commitment to academic excellence. Through continuous self-assessment, we continually enhance our programs, ensuring high-impact teaching practices and hands-on experiences with cutting-edge instrumentation. Our students benefit from personalized tutoring, research opportunities, and mentorship.
Our department thrives on student engagement, with organizations like the Alpha Chi Sigma Chemistry Fraternity, Delta Beta Chapter, leading the way in professional development and community service. As the first chapter at an HBCU and the sole chapter in Mississippi, it offers invaluable networking opportunities and lifelong friendships. Additional student groups include KHEM Klub, the National Organization for Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers, and the American Chemical Society Student Affiliates.
